The
Thai Ridgeback is a powerful and intelligent breed as well as
a keen hunter. They are extremely alert and possess great jumping
ability. They have a great sense of balance and are very agile
on their back feet alone. They are classed as a primitive breed
and therefore are often compared to Dingoes and Asian wolves rather
than the domestic dog we know of today. In the wrong hands this
breed could be considered quite dangerous.
Most training methods today are based around play. Unfortunately
the Thai Ridgeback doesn't have a strong play instinct and throwing
toys as a reward seems a pointless exercise. They do enjoy chasing
anything that moves fast so if you keep the play fast moving and
interesting then you may get their attention for a few seconds.
They do seem to respond well to food and lots of praise. They
are also quite an independent breed and will happily go off in
search of prey for their masters so once again training is essential.

Thai
Ridgebacks are sometimes regarded as an aggressive breed, which
I think is wrong. I believe that environment has a lot to do with
most of the aggression that I've seen in Thai Ridgebacks.
With the right sort of training this breed can be very obedient
to their masters wishes and protective over each and every member
of your family. This breed is known to be fearless and would stare
death in the face if there was a threat to one of the family members.
The Thai Ridgeback is also an affectionate breed and enjoys their
masters company but beware they are also known to be aloof with
strangers. Training and socialisation from a very young age is
very important when dealing with this breed especially when other
small animals are concerned.
